AMHERST — Break-ins reported at two Amherst homes over the weekend are being investigated, according to Amherst Police.

At 11:41 a.m. Saturday, residents at Tan Brook Condominiums, 95 East Pleasant St., told police that a basement door was forced open, possibly with a 2-by-4-inch lumber, said Detective Gregory Wise. Two guitars and a wall-mounted television were stolen during the break-in.

Then on Sunday, police were contacted at 8:58 p.m. by residents at 176 Triangle St., a home just a short distance from Tan Brook, where intruders kicked in a basement door to gain entry. Wise said that a laptop, Bluetooth speakers and jewelry were taken.

Both break-ins were reported as college students returned from spring break. Before leaving, police reminded those living off campus to lock doors to their homes and take valuables with them.
