AMHERST — An empty pellet pistol brought by a student to the Amherst Regional Middle School was seized by school administrators Monday, according to interim Principal Patty Bode.
School officials were informed Monday morning that a student possessed a suspicious object, Bode said in an email.
“The object was confiscated immediately, and the Amherst Police Department was called to our school,” Bode said.
Police determined the pistol didn’t have any pellets with it and posed no threat to the safety of students and staff, Bode said.
Amherst Detective Gregory Wise said the incident remains under investigation.
Because discipline is confidential, Bode said no further details about how the school handled the matter will be released.
