Former UMass coach Derek Kellogg appears to be landing on his feet.

Sources confirmed multiple reports Monday that Kellogg is expected to be named the head coach at Long Island University.

Immediately following UMass’ Atlantic 10 Tournament loss, Kellogg was fired after nine seasons leading the Minutemen.

The Springfield native and UMass alumnus was 155-137 in Amherst, including 15-18 in 2016-17. He led the school to the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported Kellogg will get a five-year deal. While no contract details have been announced, whatever Kellogg’s salary is over the first two seasons at LIU will be deducted from the $1.16 million buyout UMass was expected to pay him.

Former LIU coach Jack Perri was surprisingly fired after the season. He led the Blackbirds to a 20-12 record and a second-place finish in the Northeast Conference, despite the loss of Joel Hernandez one game into the season.

LIU loses its top two scorers, but Hernandez returns.

Former UMass coach Bruiser Flint, who was hired as an assistant coach at Indiana, also reportedly interviewed for the position.

ASSISTANT COACHES — It’s unclear how many members of Kellogg’s UMass staff will accompany him to Long Island.

Adam Ginsburg, who like new coach Matt McCall, has ties to Billy Donovan and the University of Florida. Ginsburg is the only member of Kellogg’s coaching staff who could remain with the Minutemen. He could also follow Kellogg to LIU.

McCall has already added Peter Gash, who was on his staff at Chattanooga, and Rasheen Davis, who was at VCU.

According to sources, neither Shyrone Chatman nor Andy Allison is expected to be on McCall’s UMass staff. It’s unclear whether either or both would join Kellogg.
