Anna Kerwood’s softball career at Northampton isn’t quite over, but she is already the most prolific strikeout producer in the school’s history.

After striking out eight in a 4-1 home loss to undefeated Minnechaug on Friday, Kerwood moved to 282 for her career — the most ever for the program.

“It’s just a number,” Kerwood said. “Someone will surpass me. But, right now, it is something for the whole program.”

Kerwood started pitching at age 9 and has refined her craft since.

“Everyone tried pitching back then,” Kerwood said. “But I stuck with it.”

Without overpowering speed, location is paramount to Kerwood’s attack. She also credited her catcher Abigail Pelis for choosing the locations.

“I was never big,” Kerwood said. “I was always the smallest kid and had to work hard on location. That’s what makes me successful today.”

Northampton had trouble with Minnechaug’s Katelyn Thompson and managed only five hits.

Zoe Driscoll-Sbar had an RBI double for Northampton (12-3).

The Blue Devils had opportunities with runners in scoring position against Thompson, but could not get the big hit.

Greenfield 8, Frontier Regional 5 — Maddy Fifield hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game for the Red Hawks (4-8, 3-6 Franklin).

A Greenfield grand slam in the fifth inning gave the Green Wave the lead for good.

They scored 10 runs in the third inning.

Ludlow 7, South Hadley 6 — Abby Edge had three hits, while Jaiden Plamondon drove in three runs on two hits for the Tigers (1-11).
