Smith Academy 2, Mahar Regional 1 — In a game that was scoreless for the first 5½ innings, the Falcons scored twice in the bottom of the sixth.
The Senators scored once in the top of the seventh and got the tying run to third, but Liam Pitrat, who was in the middle of all the game’s action, induced a game-ending bounce out to give Smith (6-8, 5-2 Hampshire East) a key league win.
Pitrat earned the win allowing four hits while striking out four. He didn’t walk anyone.
After John Ferrara (two hits) and Jack Hession had back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth, Pitrat broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single to right that scored Ferrara. Hession, who moved to third on the play, scored on a passed ball.
