The Granby softball team needed to win four of its final five games, all within a week, to qualify for the postseason.
Mission accomplished.
The Rams rallied early then held on to beat South Hadley, 9-8, Saturday in Granby.
The Rams trailed 4-0 after the top of the first, but led 9-4 after four innings. South Hadley scored three runs in the seventh to make it interesting.
For Granby (10-9), Lindsey Wenzel went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Julia Gauvin and Kate Sullivan (RBI) each had two hits. Emily Sawyer added two RBIs.
Abby Edge, Nicole Niemiec (RBI), Mikhaila Edge (RBI) and Jaiden Plamondon (three RBIs) each had two hits for the Tigers (3-17).
It was the final game for South Hadley senior Hayley Schaeffer (hit, RBI, walk).
Granby has won four straight and five of six. It closes the regular season with Central on Monday.
Turners Falls 3, Hampshire 1 โ Brie Bergeron (run), Madison Philbrook (double, RBI) and Alana Mohan each had one of the Raidersโ three hits in the road loss Saturday.
Danielle McGan struck out seven, walked one and allowed three runs on seven hits for Hampshire (15-5).
Agawam 18, Amherst 1 (5) โ Megan Rice had two hits, Emily Hu doubled and Rafaella Fabrizi added an RBI but the Hurricanes (1-18, 0-7 Valley League) fell at home on Saturday.
West Springfield 16, Amherst Regional 3 (5) โ Megan Rice was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Jennifer Hodgkins (two runs) and Emily Hu (RBI) each had one hit for the Hurricanes (1-19, 0-8 Valley League), who fell on the road Sunday.
It was the final game for seven Amherst seniors: Jen Joy, Egeria Koehn-Cooper, Mikah McNamara, Sonia Posner, Katie Vachula, Rice and Fabrizi.
Northampton 7, South Hadley 1 โ Will OโConnor and Andy Grygorcewicz each went 2-for-4, while Zach Brittain had a hit and two RBIs as the Blue Devils (14-6) rolled on the road Saturday.
R.J. Safron struck out five and allowed two hits in the win for Hamp.
Nate Poirier and Nehemiah Wilson each had one hit for the Tigers (15-5).
Granby 16, Gateway Regional 1 (6) โ Noah Bleakley went 4-for-5, while Joe Desormier was 2-for-5 with four RBIs and four runs as the Rams (16-5, 4-3 Bi-County North) cruised in Huntington on Saturday.
Mike White struck out eight and allowed three hits and three walks in the complete-game win.
Jake McKittrick had two hits and Shane Mastello one for the Gators (3-17, 2-6).
Pioneer Regional 5, Smith Academy 4 (8) โ Jack Hession had three hits and two RBIs, while Liam Pitrat and Chris Darragh each had two, but the Falcons (8-10, 7-3 Hampshire East) fell at home Saturday.
Smith Academy (8-10, 7-3 Hampshire East) and Mohawk (15-5, 7-3) finished the regular season as co-league champions.
St. Mary 4, Hampshire Regional 0 (9) โ The Raiders (9-11) needed to win their season finale in Westhampton Saturday, but fell in extra innings to the Saints (18-2).
Matt Sawyer and Steve Moussette (double, two stolen bases) each went 2-for-4, while Ben Fitzpatrick and Jake Batchelder each had one hit.
It was the final game for nine Hampshire seniors: Max Weir, Garrett Kowal, Reilly Provost, Camden Kelly, Greg Laroche, Dillon Pooler, Fitzpatrick, Batchelder and Moussette.
