Down by five runs going into the bottom of the sixth, the Belchertown 10-12 Little League team needed a rally.
It got one.
Derrick Gould started the comeback with a single, and ended it too with a two-run walk-off double to beat Amherst, 9-8, in pool play of the District 2 tournament.
Gould came off the bench to help ignite the comeback.
Tyler McDonald added two hits and scored two runs, while Taylor Hanson reached base four times for Belchertown.
Hanson also turned a double play in the fourth inning. The third baseman fielded a grounder, stepped on the bag and threw to second for the second out.
Tyler Eldridge pitched two innings of relief to keep the game close for Belchertown.
Amherst’s Ryan Leonard pitched into the fourth inning and allowed two runs, but had to come out due to pitch count rules.
Neil Cunniffe and Ben Oates had two hits each for Amherst.
Easthampton 10, Amherst 2 — The 8-10 Easthampton team, backed by a strong pitching performance from Shiv Patel, won on the road in pool play.
Patel pitched into the sixth inning with six strikeouts to pick up the win. He also collected three hits.
Jack Berrien, Joey Weilgus and Reece Berrien each added two hits for Easthampton.
Easthampton 12, Frontier 5 — The under-14 Eliminators won at Wilby Field, with Jocelyn Mettey pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
Mettey also went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Hannah Wodecki and Jessica Cloutier both had two hits and two RBIs, while Abby McClaflin connected on a solo homer for the Eliminators (1-1).
Julia Dobson and Makayla Santos had two hits for Frontier (0-3).
Northampton 13, Dalton 12 — Kavan Powers led Northampton with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.
Jake Brittain (hit), Jack Diggins and Noah Brink (two hits) had two RBIs each.
Orion McLain (RBI), Jarrett Smith and Jamie Berrios (three runs) each had two hits.
