EASTHAMPTON — After a disgusting but manageable vandalism incident at Corsello Butcheria on Sunday morning, shop owners Vincent and Kasey Corsello say there has been a wave of support from the community.
Vincent Corsello cleaned up the foul language smeared in feces that marked the window on the Cottage Street butcher shop. Since then, residents have been stopping by, some with flowers and cookies.
“There has been so much support,” Kasey Corsello said, adding that sales were high on Monday.
“Love is power” is now written on the window. “Thank you Easthampton for your support,” the door reads.
The shop opened in April and is a business venture inspired by a butcher shop in Rome the Corsellos frequently visited when they lived in Italy. Vincent Corsello traveled back last summer to learn the trade.
Since their opening, friends, community members, and school and city officials have come by the shop to buy a sandwich or purchase meat to cook for dinner.
The Corsellos said they got a call from the Easthampton Police Department Sunday morning notifying them that feces had been smeared on the shop window spelling out the obscenity “f you.” There is surveillance footage, but the quality is not good enough to identify the suspect, according to the shop owners.
“I was a really weird incident,” Kasey Corsello said. “I’m glad there wasn’t damage.”
