It’s time to create regional training facilities for U.S. police departments to have qualified drug recognition experts on their staffs.
Our community police departments will benefit by having choices as to where to send their personnel for this important training.
As stated in your Aug. 29 article (“Training at Sheriff Joe’s jail”), according to a 2014 Fox 10 news report out of Maricopa County, Arizona, newly arrested residents were “asked to volunteer for the (training) program in exchange for a meal and some time out of a holding cell.” Since this is a Fox News report, and three years old, it would be helpful to ascertain the original report’s veracity and to obtain more current details. For example, what happens to inmates who do not volunteer?
We need more reputable drug recognition expert training resources than those in eight Arizona jails organized by convicted criminal and former sheriff Joseph Arpaio.
