The Amherst College men’s soccer team had its four-match winning streak end Saturday, but they remained unbeaten through five games.

The Mammoths drew to a scoreless tie at Hamilton College.

Despite ripping 22 shots, Amherst was unable to find the back of the net for just the second time this season.

“I think overall today, we didn’t quite have the right energy,” Amherst coach Justin Serpone said. “It wasn’t necessarily about creating chances; it was about creating quality chances.”

Amherst tallied 10 shots in both halves, while Hamilton shot 11 in the game. The Mammoths added two shots in the second overtime, including a last-minute attempt by Freshmen defender Bryce Johnson in the 110th minute.

Sophomore defender Cutler Coleman had three shots and played strong on the back line. Serpone said Coleman played great on both sides of the ball.

“He went wide to the post … his energy was great,” Serpone said. “Ball-winning ability in the middle is just terrific. He’s a huge part of our group.”

The draw moved Amherst to 5-1-2 overall, 2-1-2 in the NESCAC. Hamilton is 4-4-2 overall (2-4-1 NESCAC).

The Mammoths have a quick turnaround with undefeated Connecticut College at Hitchcock Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

“We’re just going to regroup and get ready,” Serpone said. “We’re going to need to stay focused because it’s fall break and there’s not a lot of people on campus, so we’ll get back and spend some time together and be ready for Tuesday.”
