Annie R. Ita was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, where she is a junior in the school of art and design.

Nickayla C. Page, majoring in pre-pharmacy, was inducted into the Mortar Board National Honor Society at Western New England University in Springfield.

Granby

Marlana J Haas, majoring in computer engineering, was inducted into the Mortar Board National Honor Society at Western New England University in Springfield.

Hatfield

Patrick Dickert received the Education Scholar Activist Award at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he is a member of the class of 2018.

Haydenville

Phoebe Gelbard, daughter of Anne and Jeff Gelbard and a 2016 graduate of Northampton High School, has received the Esther Warner Scholarship from the Department of Environmental Conservation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The scholarship provides support for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Forestry and Natural Resource Studies.

Gelbard was also awarded the Education Abroad Merit Scholarship and the Lang Global Scholars Award. She is a member of the class of 2020.

Northampton

Charles Hale, who graduated with a degree in biology from Haverford College last year, has won a Fulbright U.S. Student Research award to travel to the Czech Republic to continue studying an invasive plant that was the focus of his senior thesis..

He will be working at the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Botany in Prague for nine months, starting in mid-September.

After his graduation in 2017, Hale was selected to receive a Haverford House Fellowship. That program, run by the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, chooses graduating seniors committed to social justice and community action for a post-graduate year of work at Philadelphia-area nonprofits, during which the fellows share a West Philadelphia home and create projects that engage the college with local groups devoted to creating a more just, healthy and vibrant community.

As part of his fellowship, Hale has been working on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programming in Philadelphia middle and high schools.

 

Bates College
