Richy Werenski found the birdies he was after Saturday at the Travelers Championship.

They came with a few bogeys, but the South Hadley native shot a 2-under 68 at TPC River Highlands to move to minus-5 for the tournament, which tied him for 32nd.

Paul Casey leads at 16 under after a blistering 8-under 62.

Werenski will tee off at 11:20 a.m. Sunday with Blayne Barber in the final round of the tournament.

He opened the weekend with a birdie on the first hole, sinking a 5-foot, 4-inch putt, the type of shot he’d missed regularly Thursday and Friday. Werenski needed just a 2-foot putt on No. 3 for birdie after an immaculate approach shot.

The round veered slightly off course at the par-3 fifth. His tee shot landed in the bunker, but he put his second shot within 7 feet. His putt went long, and he settled for a bogey.

Werenski closed the front nine with his third birdie of the round. His approach shot landed 13 feet, 2 inches from the hole, and he drained that putt to go into the turn at 5-under for the tournament.

He missed an eagle by 20 inches on the par-5 13th, but tapped in for birdie to go to minus-6, his lowest mark of the tournament.

It lasted through three holes. Werenski needed six shots on No. 17. It was his first double bogey of the tournament and took him back to 4 under. He hit the water on his second shot aiming for the green and took a penalty stroke. Werenski shot out of the rough then two-putted.

He closed the round with a birdie on No. 18 to get back to 5 under. He hit his tee shot straight down the fairway then landed his second 14 feet, 8 inches to the hole. A birdie putt ended Round 3.
