The Suburban League 12-and-under softball championship was the last game for many of the players on Southampton.

The Heat made it count Thursday.

Southampton took an early lead en route to a 4-2 victory at William E. Norris School.

The Heat finished undefeated at 12-0. Several players will age out by next summer.

โ€œThey feed off each other,โ€ assistant coach Ashley Spear said. โ€œThey came into today with a lot of energy.โ€

Southampton took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Kelsey Bouchard worked a leadoff walk and scored on an error. After two strikeouts, Katie Collinsโ€™ single scored Daelin Murdock for a 2-0 lead. Hailey Wodecki then singled in Collins for the final run.

Agawam, which beat Southampton in the playoffs last year, pulled within one with two runs in the third.

In the sixth, Avery Brooks (2-for-3) hit a leadoff double, took third on an error and scored on a Murdock comebacker.

Emma Czarniecki closed the door on Agawam. Czarniecki struck out eight, walked one and allowed two runs on three hits in the complete game.

โ€œSheโ€™s very disciplined,โ€ Spears said. โ€œSheโ€™s really good at hitting her locations. Weโ€™re able to paint the corners. She has good control and usually doesnโ€™t walk a lot of girls. Sheโ€™s a veteran on this team.โ€

Moja Premny and Czarniecki each had a single.

โ€œBeing undefeated, you want to stay that way,โ€ Spears said. โ€œIt was bittersweet for some of the girls.โ€
