Hailley Boutin broke a tie in the second half as the Belchertown field hockey team opened with a 2-1 win at home over Amherst Regional, Friday.

Catherine O’Connell (assist) scored in the first half to give the O’s the lead at the break. Boutin assisted on the play. Abigail Rothstein made eight saves in the win.

Ella DeSilva-Beal tied the game for the Hurricanes on a stroke and Lydia Sullivan made 15 saves.

Frontier Regional 2, Smith Academy 0 — The Red Hawks (1-0) scored a goal in each half en route to the win in South Deerfield.

Lily Spencer scored from Alyson Barnes before halftime, and Olivia Vecellio netted a penalty stroke in the second half.

Skyla Burniske did not have to make a save in the shutout. Vecellio played well in front from her center midfield position.

Taeghan Cavanaugh made 17 saves in defeat for the Falcons (0-1). Karlie Guimond and Victoria Smiarowski played well for Smith.

Greenfield 5, South Hadley 1 — Savannah Sudyka scored and Brook Blair made 10 saves but the Tigers fell on the road to the defending sectional champions.

Girls volleyball

Amherst Regional 3, West Springfield 0 — Olivia Hogans had seven aces and 14 kills, while Amelia Beigel had 27 assists as the Hurricanes won 25-16, 27-25, 29-27 at home.

Julia Feldman added six aces and seven kills.

Frontier Regional 3, Westfield 1 — Lauren Davenport had 19 kills, while Olivia Deane (11 aces) and Ashley Telega each had 10 as the Red Hawks won 25-13, 25-16, 17-25, 25-21.

Elizabeth Fuqua had 40 assists.

South Hadley 3, Belchertown 2 — The Tigers overcame a 2-1 deficit to win 25-14, 22-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-9 on the road.

Aislinn Ford had four aces, six kills and digs, while Kayla Roy added six aces, eight assists and one kill for South Hadley. Julia Pratt chipped in with three kills.

For the Orioles, Marissa Courchesne had seven aces, five kills and one block, while Madison Sefton had four aces and five kills. Allison Cote added seven assists.
