Amherst native Davis Smith scored in the 44th minute on a point-blank header from a corner, and the UMass men’s soccer team shut out Hartford 2-0 on the road Wednesday.

Jack Fulton delivered the corner for the assist.

James McPherson doubled the advantage with a short tap in after a centering pass from Yosuke Hanaya, who received the assist.

Trey Miller made two saves to earn the shutout for the Minutemen (3-2-2).

Women’s soccer

Smith 2, RPI 0 — Peyton McBride had two assists to lead the Pioneers (4-2) to a win.

Zufan Bazzano and Krissy Williams each found the net. Naomi Falkenberg made 10 saves for the shutout.

Field hockey

Connecticut College 3, Smith 2 — Sammie Pavlov scored both goals, but the Pioneers fell. Channy Cornell made five saves for Smith (1-3).
