FLORENCE — In preparation for the Nov. 6 election, Indivisible Northampton will host a panel Monday evening to discuss the three questions on the ballot.
People from both sides of Question 1, which asks if the state should put limits on the number of patients one nurse can be assigned, will speak on a panel.
Debby Pastrich-Klemer, Indivisible Northampton events coordinator and co-chair, will moderate the discussion and the audience will then be able to ask panelists questions.
“I think it’s important that people understand what they’re voting for,” Pastrich-Klemer said. “I’ve found in the past that the questions aren’t written very straightforward. I know in the past I haven’t taken the time to learn more about them and I’ve regretted that.”
Speakers from only the “yes” perspective of Questions 2 and 3 will present.
Question 2 asks whether the state should form a commission to suggest an amendment to repeal Citizens United v. FEC, a Supreme Court decision that allows unlimited campaign spending from corporations and unions.
Question 3 asks whether to keep in place a 2016 state law that protects transgender people from discrimination in public places.
Indivisible Northampton is a Massachusetts chapter of the national progressive group Indivisible, centered around opposing President Donald Trump’s policies.
In the past, Pastrich-Klemer said, the group has hosted talks from candidates running in local and state elections. The group expects 60 or more people to attend Monday’s discussion, Pastrich-Klemer said.
The event will be held at Pathways CoHousing, 25 Mountain Laurel Path, Florence, from 7 to 8:45 p.m.
