I was disheartened to read about a PAC being formed in Amherst on the pretense to educate voters. Amherst Forward is doing a disservice to our community by promoting only those candidates who answered yes to four very black-and-white questions which didn’t adequately address very complex issues. Many of the candidates appreciated this, choosing to run on their own merit citing their experience, intellect, energy and collaborative skills as qualification for town council. We need to elect the best and the brightest to form the strongest council and not be swayed by a media blitz by a monied PAC. Amherst voters have ample ways to educate themselves on all the candidates (LWV forum, Amherst media videos, house parties). With only 13 councilors we should make sure we have information on all the candidates so that we can best choose our new government. Let Amherst Forward hold a forum where their four questions can be discussed in the depth they deserve by all candidates if they really want to educate voters on issues important to us all.
