NORTHAMPTON — The work of social justice organizations is often focused on decrying serious problems that need to be addressed. But local activists, like anyone else, also want to celebrate.

In that spirit, the Pioneer Valley Workers Center and Jobs with Justice are holding their 4th annual Justice Cup soccer tournament on Monday, Oct. 8, to coincide with Indigenous Peoples Day. The event is meant as a celebration of the social justice work taking place across the Pioneer Valley.

“We want people to be united and to come together around interesting and important ways to celebrate culture,” Workers Center organizer Gabriella della Croce said. “To have events like this that bring people together is really important.”

The tournament will take place Monday at the Florence Fields at 145 Meadow St., and will begin at 9 a.m. Registration for a team, which can have up to 10 players, is $150, or $20 for an individual. All proceeds will go toward the organizations’ work supporting immigrants and low wage workers, according to the Pioneer Valley Workers Center.

In addition to soccer, the event will include family-friendly games and crafts, a food truck and live music.
