Gage Spanknebel gave the Hopkins Academy boys soccer an early lead it never lost in a 4-3 win over Athol, Tuesday in Hadley.

Spanknebel scored five minutes into the game with an assist from Liam Higgins, then again 15 minutes later with help from Chris Muchenski.

Andrew Ciaglo made it 3-1 in the 38th minute with an assist from Addison Phifer.

Angel Rivera pulled Athol within 3-2 with his second of three goals five minutes into the second half. Spanknebel answered two minutes later with an unassisted strike.

Jack Feltovic made four saves for Hopkins (7-6-1, 6-3-1 Schmid), which needs three points over its last four games to qualify.

Athol (7-6, 5-5) and Hopkins combined for 15 goals during its two games this season. Athol won 6-2 on Sept. 19.

Westfield 2, Northampton 1 — The Blue Devils scored first with a goal from Tommy Hart on an assist from Sam Curran.

Northampton had the lead going into the second half, but the Bombers rallied for the win.

Northampton goalie Jarrett Borer made 19 saves.

Pioneer Christian 2, Smith Vocational 1— William Childs Florio cut the deficit in half with an assist from Anthony Palazzi in the second half, but the Vikings couldn’t net an equalizer.

Tom Doyle made 14 saves in defeat.

Mahar 5, Smith Academy 0 — Ryan Belina made 10 saves, as the Falcons (4-9, 0-6 McGrath) fell on the road.

Gateway 1, Renaissance 0 — Jake Thayer scored from Evan Lee in the second half, and Jon Folley made six saves as the Gators won on the road.

Frontier Regional 3, Holyoke 1 — Freshman John Wooley scored his first career varsity goal four minutes into the game and it sparked the Red Hawks in South Deerfield.

Tim Barrington set up Wooley for his first goal. Connor Bagdon made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute on an assist from Doug Hanieski.

Hanieski scored eight minutes later on an assist from Kip Newman.

Peter Bronke made four saves for the victory.

Girls Soccer

Gateway Regional 1, Mount Everett 0 — Maddie Clark scored off of an assist from Erin Harris in the first half and Becca Herman made one save as the Gators earned the shutout.

Northampton 3, Belchertown 0 — Caroline Tanner scored two goals and Gabby Katz (assist) scored the other as the Blue Devils rolled.

Peyton Pettiford-Rowan and Natalie Goeler-Slough each had one assist. Sidney Levin made nine saves.

Belchertown goalie Julia Jimenez made four saves.

Frontier 5, Athol 1 — Natalie Denkiewicz and Jess Wrisley each scored twice for the Red Hawks (8-4-1) at O’Brien Field in Athol.

Claudia Rajballie added a goal and an assist, while Wrisley joined Cambrie Hamilton and Megan Dejnak with single assists in the win. Maddy Crocker made four saves in net.

Hampshire 6, Holyoke 1 — Katelyn Dunn and Olivia Aldrich each had a goal and an assist for the visiting Raiders.
