Allison Barnes’ first-half goal secured a spot in the postseason for the Frontier Regional field hockey team.
The Red Hawks tied South Hadley 1-1 on Thursday, earning their 18th point. The Red Hawks play an 18-game schedule and qualified for the Division 2 tournament with the result. Frontier (8-4-2, 5-1-1 Valley) has played in the last 11 sectional finals and won four titles.
Olivia Vecellio assisted Barnes’ goal, and Skyla Burniske made nine saves for Frontier, which has 18 points and an 18-game schedule.
Bella Yee tied the game with 15 minutes left on an assist from Kayla Carleon. Brooke Blair stopped 13 shots for the Tigers (7-5-2, 5-2-2). South hadley needs two points in its last four games to qualify.
Agawam 4, Northampton 0 — Ella Moreau stopped eight shots in a home loss for the Blue Devils (2-10-4).
Hopkins Academy 1, Franklin Tech 0 — Gage Spanknebel converted a free kick from just outside the box with 10 minutes left, and the Golden Hawks moved within a point of postseason qualification.
Erik Berg made four saves for Hopkins Academy (8-6-1).
The Golden Hawks have three games left and play McCann Tech at home Monday.
Mount Greylock 7, Granby 0 — Mike McGreevy stopped 11 shots for the Rams (0-13-1) in a road loss.
Amherst Regional 1, Monument Mountain 0 — Liam Carpenter-Shulman scored on a scramble after a bouncing ball in the box came out to him with four minutes left.
Matt Essig made four saves for the Hurricanes (7-6).
Smith Vocational 3, Smith Academy 1— Behind Marrissa Mayhew’s two goals the Vikings won at home.
Ella Sherman scored off a Mayhew assist in the first half for Smith Vocational (6-5-1, 4-2-1 Pioneer South). Mayhew added two more goals in the second half off assists from Morgan Roberts and Sherman to break the 1-1 tie at the half.
Erin Gilrein finished with an unassisted goal in the first half for the Falcons (6-7-1, 4-3). Maddie Bell made six stops for Smith Academy while Lizzy Hardy had three saves for Smith Vocational.
Belchertown 5, Taconic 0 — Ally Tatro, Olivia Vogel (assist), Delaney O’Brien (assist), Emma LeBlanc (assist) and Avery Klingensmith all scored for the Orioles.
Alexa LaFlamme also had an assist, while Julia Jemenez made one save for Belchertown (7-6-1).
Easthampton 2, Athol 0 — Kasi Marowitz assisted goals in the 28th and 29th minutes to push the Eagles to a home win.
Jackie Perez scored the first goal, while Emily Landry added the second.
Abby Coleman made one save for Easthampton (8-5, 6-3 Pioneer North).
Northampton 2, Longmeadow 1— Mary Greene gave the Blue Devils a game-winning goal with less than 20 seconds left off an assist from Caroline Tanner. Peyton Pettiford- Rowan scored an unassisted goal to take a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Sydney Luwandowski finished with eight saves for Northampton (6-7-2, 3-4) .
Gateway 0, Frontier 0 — Siomara Green recorded five saves and the Red Hawks (8-5-2, 5-4-1 Pioneer North) picked up their fifth shutout of the season. Becca Herman made four saves for the Gators (9-2-1, 6-1-1), and Frontier held a 9-6 edge in shots.
Granby 1, Hampshire 0 — Nora Young scored a winner in the second half for the Rams. Katie Taylor had eight saves for Hampshire (9-2-1, 4-2-1 Central), while Justice Delaney stopped three shots for Granby (4-2, 8-4-1 Central).
South Hadley 5, Sabis 2 — Alexa Blaney and Olivia Blaney scored two goals each in a road win. Paige Marjanski also found the net.
Lindsay Marjanski, Reese Carey and Maddie Doolittle all added assists for the Tigers (12-0, 5-0 Grieve).
Briget Sears made six saves.
Duggan 3, Smith Vocational 0 — Marissa Rodrigues had six digs, two aces, two kills and an assist in a 25-13, 25-22, 27-25 home loss.
Haleigh Pensivy made five digs and two aces for the Vikings (3-12).
Amherst Regional 3, Agawam 0 — Amelia Biegel finished with a game-high 21 assists along with eight digs in a 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 road win. Nicole Lambert had nine kills and 21 digs, while Amanda Crowe- Chandler added 15 digs and two aces for the Hurricanes (8-7, 2-5 Eastern).
