I don’t know why you print such obviously biased liberal trash as John Sheirer’s “column” article on Oct. 8. That type of journalism is a perfect example why people distrust what they read in newspapers and hear on the evening news, especially the national news media.
What Sheirer, along with members of the #MeToo movement, fail to mention as part of their vitriol is that, luckily in our country, the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty. It appears that many would like that amended to, in cases of sexual abuse accusations, women are to be believed and accused men are guilty, with or without any corroboration. In the case of Judge Kavanaugh, why would Dr. Ford’s female friend not corroborate her story unless it never happened? I can see Mark Judge might have an ulterior motive, but why would Leland Ingham Keyser respond as she did? The protestors conveniently forget to bring that up because it doesn’t fit their storyline.
Further, Sheirer and other liberals continue to lament Hillary Clinton’s loss in 2016. Isn’t it about time to get over that? Hillary lost because, like her husband, she is untrustworthy. Had the Democrats nominated Bernie Sanders as their candidate, he might have won. I know that I could have voted for him instead of Donald. At least Bernie had convictions and stood up for what he believed in, not so for Hillary.
This then brings us to the reason why the Democrats don’t have the final say in who gets appointed to the Supreme Court. They don’t have the votes, pure and simple. Perhaps if they focused their energy on winning elections rather than being obstructionists and continuing to whine about Hillary and Donald, they could have a seat at the table that counted.
However, after observing the performances of Feinstein, Schumer, Blumenthal, Booker, Harris and Hirono, I doubt it. I was personally upset with Senator Blumenthal since I once sat with him on a board of directors of a nonprofit criminal justice organization in Connecticut in the 1970s and felt highly of him then. Not so anymore.
So, Trump won, the Republicans won, the conservatives won, Kavanaugh won, and the losers get to cry some more. If they are smart, they will look for ways to convince Americans that they should be trusted with being the majority part in the country. However, I suspect that they will continue to whine and put up candidates who make preposterous pronouncements and can’t get elected. As a result, when justices Ginsburg and/or Breyer decide to retire, the Supreme Court will lean even further to the conservative side.
