The Amherst Regional girls cross country team finished first in the girls championship division at the Brown Northeast Invitational on Saturday in Warwick, Rhode Island.
The Hurricanes accumulated 82 points, besting Sacred Heart Academy (Hempstead, New York), which was second with 93.
Sophie Jacobs-Townsley crossed the line in 17 minutes, 46.66 seconds for third. Grace Connolly of Natick won in 16:35.3.
Isabela Shepard placed 18th (19:00.91), Julia Hopley was 22nd (19:08), Zada Forde finished 28th (19:31.97) and Erin Clotfelter took 30th (19:35.51).
Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational โ Amherstโs Jack Hanko finished fourth with a 15:35.37. He led the Hurricanes to a sixth-place finish as a team with 255 points. Needham won with 116, while Burlingtonโs Rishabh Prakash placed first at 15:06.41.
Northamptonโs Tobias LโEsperance placed 25th (16:14.49). The Blue Devils were ninth (116).
In the girls race, Mary Yount finished 12th for the Blue Devils (18:43).
Littletonโs Sarah Roffman won the race in 17:29.96, and Walpole was the team champion with 131 points.
Amherst 3, Wahconah 0 โ The Hurricanes qualified for the postseason Saturday with a 25-23, 25-8, 25-8 win.
Olivia Hogans had 12 kills, four aces and three digs.
Jen Hodgkins added 16 digs and three aces.
Amelia Beigel passed 26 assists with three aces and three digs.
Amanda Crowe-Chandler fired six aces, while Nicole Lambert (four digs) had five.
Boys soccer
Hampshire Regional 4, Holyoke 2 โ Mike McColgan and Justin Szwajkowski had two goals each in a comeback win Saturday that qualified the Raiders for the tournament.
Mark Craig, Cade Lachapelle and Grady Fern assisted for the Raiders (8-4).
Colin Boyle made seven saves for Hampshire.
Gateway 2, Athol 0 โ Erin Harris scored two goals, and the Gators won on the road Saturday.
Ava Auclair assisted her first goal in the 35th minute on a left-footed cross.
In the 59th minute, Becca Hyjek gave Harris a long lead pass that she finished. Becca Herman made one save for the Gators (10-2-1).
Granby 3, Sabis 1 โ Trystin Burger found the net twice and added an assist Saturday.
Julia Frappier also had a goal, while Nora Young had an assist. Justice Delaney made four saves for the Rams (10-4-1).
Belchertown 3, Monument Mountain 1 โ Avery Klingensmith passed two assists Saturday. Emma LeBlanc, Erin Lucas and Ally Tatro had a goal each for the Orioles (8-6-1). Julia Jimenez made five saves.
South Hadley 4, Lenox 1 โ Alexa Blaney contributed a goal and two assists in a win Saturday.
Teagan Gawron, Sydney Mercier and Reese Crey also scored, while Hailey Werenski added an assist. Bridget Sears made five saves for the Tigers (13-0).
