The UMass hockey team pulled its goalie and scored the equalizer in the final minute, then freshman Marc Del Gaizo netter the overtime game-winner as the Minutemen beat Merrimack, 4-3, Saturday in North Andover.

The 16th-ranked Minutemen (5-1-1, 2-0-0 Hockey East) tied the game with 33 seconds left in regulation. Cale Makar found John Leonard, who sent a cross-ice pass to Philip Lagunov for the goal.

In overtime, Del Gaizo was at the post where he cleaned up a rebound from his brother Anthony Del Gaizo and Leonard.

UMass tied the game at 1-1 in the first period. Jacob Pritchard converted his second power-play goal of the weekend with assists from Leonard and Mitchell Chaffee at the 16:45 mark.

Chaffee made it 2-1 with another power-play goal early in the second. Pritchard and Makar had assists.

Filip Lindberg finished with 26 saves.

Women’s soccer

George Mason 2, UMass 1 (2OT) — Emma Van Der Vorst scored in the 105th minute as the Patriots ended the Minutewomen’s season with a loss in the Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals, Saturday in Fairfax, Virginia.

Jenny Hipp tied the game in the 62nd minute with assists from Lauren Bonavita and Paige Kozlowski for UMass (11-6-1).

Peyton Ryan made five saves in defeat.

Amherst 1, Hamilton 0 — Rubii Tamen netted the lone goal as the Mammoths (13-2-1) advanced to the NESCAC semifinals with the home win, Sunday.

Men’s soccer

Amherst 1, Bowdoin 0 — Andres Pascual-Leone scored with an assist from Bryce Johnson as the Mammoths (12-3-1) advanced to the NESCAC semifinals with the home win, Sunday.

Field hockey

Tufts 2, Amherst 0 — Katie Savage made four saves, but the Mammoths (10-6) fell in the NESCAC quarterfinals, on the road Sunday.

Smith 6, Clark 0 — Alex Larosee scored three goals, while Anna Ballou (Deerfield) and Emily Biggs (Northampton) each had one assist as the Pioneers (12-7, 6-3 NEWMAC) cruised at home, Saturday.

Men’s Cross Country

NESCAC Championships — Amherst (60 points) had three runners finish in the top 10 as it won the title for a second straight year, Saturday in Boston.

Cosmo Brossy was third, Clark Ricciardelli sixth and Tucker Meijer 10th on the 8-kilometer Franklin Park course in Boston.

Atlantic 10 Championships — UMass finished sixth and was led by Michael Famiglietti, who finished 13th on the 5-mile course at Richmond.

Women’s Cross Country

NESCAC Championships — Amherst placed eighth and was led by Olivia Polischeck (26th), Saturday on the 6-kilometer Franklin Park course in Boston.

Caroline Sullivan (South Hadley) was 37th for Trinity (ninth).

Atlantic 10 Championships — UMass finished 13th and was led by Colette O’Leary, who finished 36th on the 5-kilometer course at Richmond.

NEWMAC championships — Frances Duncan (Amherst Regional) finished 16th as Smith College finished fifth, Saturday in Northampton.

Simone Jacob was 17th for Mount Holyoke (sixth).

Women’s volleyball

Amherst 3, Colby 0 — Jamie Dailey led the visiting Mammoths (20-4, 8-2 NESCAC) with 10 kills, while Charlotte Duran put up 30 assists in their regular-season finale, Saturday.

Babson 3, Mount Holyoke 0; Worcester State 3, Mount Holyoke 0 — Jamesa Allen had 16 kills against Worcester State, while Sarah Caggiano had eight against Babson, but the Lyons (8-15) dropped a pair at Babson Park.

Clark 3, Smith 0 — Amy Hagen had eight kills and Kimani Freeman added 17 assists but the Pioneers (3-22, 0-10 NEWMAC) fell in Worcester, Saturday.

Men’s swimming & diving

UMass 201, NJIT 97 — Kellen Gray led a 1-2-3 finish in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, while Luther Gordon won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, as well as the 200 individual medley for the visiting Minutemen, Saturday.

Women’s swimming & diving

Smith Relays — Mount Holyoke’s 200-yard medley relay team of Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton), Bri Groves, Ashton Bliss and Tamara Mukulu won in 2:00.66, Saturday in Northampton.

Smith College placed first in both the 200 freestyle with Paula Torre-Nieto, Katherine Anderson (Williamsburg), Tjasa Kmetec and Charlotte Crandall, and the 200 butterfly with Torre-Nieto, Kmetec, Anderson and Desi Stoyanova.

Riding

Mount Holyoke College Horse Show — Mount Holyoke finished first with 45 points, followed by UMass with 30. Smith was fourth (24) and Amherst (eight) eighth.

Sierra Dunn (Northampton) took first in novice flat, while Indra Rapinchuk-Souccar (Cummington) was first on intermediate flat and novice fences for Mount Holyoke. Rapinchuk-Souccar was the overall high point rider and high point intermediate rider. Dunn was reserve high point novice rider.

Rowing

Seven Sisters Championship — Smith College placed first in the Varsity 8, while Mount Holyoke was fourth, Sunday on the Charles River in Boston.
