The UMass men’s soccer team ended its regular season with a 3-1 road win over George Washington on Wednesday.

Yosuke Hanya and Amherst native Davis Smith had a goal and an assist each.

Clement Benhaddouche provided two assists, and Brandon Merklin had one. DeAndre Brown also found the net for UMass (7-8-2, 3-5-0 A-10).

Marvyn Dorchin made two saves.

The Minutemen needed help to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament a fourth straight season and they got it.

UMass, the defending tournament champion, will be the No. 8 seed and will face No. 1 VCU in the quarterfinals, Sunday at 2 p.m. in Richmond, Virginia.

The Minutemen entered Wednesday needing three results in five A-10 contests to go their way to force a three-way tie for eighth between UMass, Saint Joseph’s and St. Bonaventure with nine points each.

Saint Joseph’s 3-3 draw against Saint Louis in double overtime earned the Hawks a point to turn a two-way tiebreak between UMass and St. Bonaventure into a three-way tie for the eighth and final spot in which UMass earned the nod over the Hawks based on records against opponents at the top of the league table.

The Atlantic 10 semifinals are slated for Nov. 9 hosted by Saint Louis with the league championship scheduled for Nov. 11.
