NORTHAMPTON – A Hatfield man was arraigned on six charges in Northampton District Court Monday, including assault with a dangerous weapon.
Kevin J. Newman, 56, was arrested on Saturday at his home at 4 The Jog in Hatfield. The arrest and charges originate from an incident in which Newman allegedly slapped his mother and threatened her with a table, according to court documents.
Police allege Newman resisted arrest, caused a disturbance at Cooley Dickinson Hospital after he was brought there, and threatened a Massachusetts State Trooper with murder.
Newman was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and threatening to commit a crime. His bail was set at $1,000 cash and his next court appearance is set for Dec. 20.
