The UMass women’s basketball team got out to an early lead and Hailey Leidel finished with 20 points in a 71-59 win over Incarnate Word, Friday at the Mullins Center.
UMass led 18-10 after the first quarter and 39-21 at the break.
Leidel shot 6 of 14 from the floor, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range. She added 11 rebounds, three blocks and four assists.
Paige McCormick had 13 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Bre Hampton-Bey chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
UMass (6-4) had 18 second-chance points and outscored Incarnate 30-18 in the paint.
Williams 4, Amherst 2 — Stephen Rex and Jack Lloyd each scored, but the Mammoths (3-3-1, 1-2-1 NESCAC) fell on the road.
Elmira 2, Amherst 1 — Mia DelRosso buried a power-play goal with assists from Jamie McNamara and Jocelyn Hunyadi to give the Mammoths a 1-0 lead at Orr Rink, but the third-ranked Soaring Eagles rallied for the win.
Caitlin Walker made 36 saves for Amherst (2-3-1).
