Jill McGrath converted a three-point play with four seconds left, then stole the ball on West Springfield’s final possession to lift Northampton to a 43-40 victory, Monday in Northampton.

McGrath scored in the paint, was fouled and sank the free throw to break the tie. On the previous possession, McGrath and Amanda Mieczkowski forced a trap in the corner, leading to a West Springfield turnover.

The Blue Devils (12-2, 2-1 Valley League) struggled offensively early, but used a strong defensive effort in the second half to spark their comeback.

McGrath led the way with 14 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter.

Mieczkowski scored 14 for the Blue Devils while Kolbie Jones added eight points.

Hopkins Academy 81, Pioneer Valley 54 — The Golden Hawks shot their way into the postseason.

Hopkins dropped 12 3-pointers as it qualified for the postseason in Northfield.

Allison Kowal-Safron had seven 3s and a career-high 25 points, while Samantha Jenks finished with five 3s and 33 points.

Kowal-Safron had six 3s and 20 points by halftime. Jenks had 14 points in the first half, while A.J. Mitchell (17 points) had 11. Hopkins led 50-26 at the break.

Mitchell also had 17 rebounds and five blocked shots. Jenks added five boards, five steals and five assists.

South Hadley 58, Monson 45 — Mia Kelly and Bella Earle each had 17 points as the Tigers staved off the Mustangs to qualify for the postseason.

Paige Marjanski added 13 points in the win.

Gateway Regional 37, Smith Vocational 27 — Peyton Bucko scored a team-high 13 points (three 3s) for the Gators (10-4) and Grace Van Buren added eight points in the win.

Ella Sherman led the way for the Vikings (5-9), scoring 10 points. Freshman Nevaeh Stone also scored eight points.

Granby 66, Sabis 39 — Nora Young had a game-high 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds and eight assists for the near triple-double. Kaeleigh Croteau added 13 points (three 3s) for the Rams (5-8) in the win.

Agawam 53, Hampshire Regional 49 — The Brownies (8-6) pulled away from the Raiders (8-7) in the fourth quarter. Maddie Pond had a team-high 16 points for the Raiders.

Smith Academy 44, Southwick 28 — Karlie Guimond led the Falcons (9-6) to a win over the Rams (4-7) with 18 points.

Three players from Smith Academy had double-doubles. Guimond had 10 rebounds while Emma Kelly had 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Victoria Smiarowski added 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

Belchertown 52, Ludlow 29 — Elise Pikul had 15 points and five steals in an all-around defensive effort for the Orioles (5-8).

Gina Camerota added seven points for the Orioles.

Amherst Regional 53, Palmer 27 — Erin Klaes scored 22 points (five 3s) to lead the Hurricanes (5-8) to a road win over the Panthers (5-9).

Freshman forward Delaney MacPetres added 18 points for the Hurricanes.

Frontier Regional 39, Putnam 29 — The Red Hawks built a 30-9 lead at halftime and cruise din Springfield.

Amelia Sobieski had 15 points and Charlotte Doulette added nine for Frontier (7-6).

Boys basketball

Commerce 63, Amherst Regional 51 — Charles Woodfine-Holmes had 13 points and Evan Perry added nine, but the Hurricanes (3-10) fell at home.

Tied after the first quarter, the Red Raiders (5-8) took a 29-21 halftime lead. Amherst recovered and pulled with 41-39 at the end of the third.

Williston 76, Westminster 45 — Tyler Thomas (12 rebounds) and John Kelly each had 22 points as the Wildcats cruised. Jason Rhett (Amherst) and Nick Heafey (Northampton) each had three points.
