The Amherst Regional girls swimming team bolstered its sectional meet squad with a strong showing at Saturday’s fast chance meet at West Springfield high school.
It added all three relays and seven more potential individual events with qualifying times.
The Hurricanes 200-meldey relay squad of Maggie Thibault, Vianka Acosta-McKenzie, Lucy Smith and Sophie Schilling won in 1 minute, 56.88 seconds and qualified for the Division 2 state meet as well as next weekend’s West/Central sectional meet.
They added two 50 freestyle swimmers for sectionals: Adda Hennessey in second (26.9) and Sophie Schilling in third (27.33).
Maggie Thibault placed first in the 100 freestyle (59.42), and Hennessey was third (59.98), both reaching the Central/West meet.
Easthampton’s Elizabeth Winberg was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.76 to make the West/Central cut. She also qualified for sectionals in the 500, placing first in 5:45.2.
Amherst’s 200 freestyle relay squad of Acosta-McKenzie, Hennessey, Jenna Schilling and Smith also turned in a state cut at 1:46.1. Easthampton followed close behind with Winberg, Jillian Scott, Victoria Drejsa and Saige Harper in 1:50.74 and also qualified for states.
The Hurricanes went 1-2-3 in the 100 backstroke, all qualifying for at least sectionals. Lucy Smith won (1:06.00) and qualified for states. Acosta-McKenzie was second (1:06.63), while Thibault placed third (1:06.91).
Their 400 freestyle relay team of Acosta-McKenzie, Hennessey, Thibault and Smith won in 3:57.39 and qualified for the state meet. Easthampton’s Winberg, Scott, Drejsa and Harper placed second in 4:06.47 and reached the sectional meet.
On the boys side, Amherst placed third in the 200 medley relay with Kerem Un, Jacob Laney, Kellan Rolle and Evander Maradiaga at 2:00.62 and qualified for the sectional meet.
South Hadley’s William Gagne clocked a 2:19.75 in winning the boys 200 IM to make the sectional meet.
Chicopee Comp 5, Amherst Regional 3 — Joe Freniere had a goal and an assist in a loss Saturday.
Nick Foster and Kouji Ishida both scored, while Brandon Perit added an assist for the Hurricanes (12-3, 5-1 Fay). John Hanscom stopped 25 shots.
Greenfield 11, Gardner 1 — Bryan Baumann amassed five points on three goals and two assists in a road win Saturday.
Sean O’Sullivan also had a hat trick with an assist, while Kevin Baumann and Aiden Roache put up four points on a goal and three assists each.
Kevin Barnes (goal), Adam Savoy (goal), Jacob Bryant and Mike McGoldrick all passed two assists.
Cameron Rice found the net, while Derek Lenois had an assist for the Green Wave (11-1-2).
Jordyn Lavalle made 12 saves.
