Weston’s relays proved to be a hair faster than Northampton’s.
The two boys indoor track & field teams were tied entering the relays at the State Division 5 Championships, Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The Blue Devils were sixth (1 minute, 35.59 seconds) in the 4×200, third in the 4×800 (8:26.92) and third in the 4×400. Weston was second, sixth and second, respectively.
Hamp’s 4×400 relay finished in 3:31.34 to Weston’s 3:29.20 as the defending champion Blue Devils finished second with 49 points, one behind Weston.
Amherst Regional, which won two relays, finished fourth, one point behind third-place Wakefield (41).
The Amherst girls team placed fourth behind Sophia Jacobs-Townsley’s 2-mile victory and the 4×800 relay’s win. The Hurricanes had 30 points, one less than Pentucket. North Reading won the title with 37. Nauset was second with 35.
Benjamin Gordon Sniffen won the 1,000-meter run to pace the Blue Devils.
Northampton received a second-place finish by Ethan Cooper (1:21.15) in the boys 600. Teammate Eben Saveson was fifth in 1:25.03.
Benjamin Howe was sixth in the 1,000 in 2:37.32 for Northampton. Gordon Sniffen won in 2:21.78.
Tobias L’Esperance (9:59.51) and Tim Jacques (10:02.63) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 2-mile for Northampton.
Amherst Regional’s relay team of Kai Bailin, Ben Fang, Isaiah Moyston and Junior Pontes da Veiga won the 4×200 in 1:30.85. The same relay lineup won the 4×400 in 3:28.72.
Amherst’s 4×800 relay was second in 8:18.45.
Pontes da Veiga placed third in the 55 dash in 6.7 seconds. Michael Blake, of Hudson, set a meet record in 6.44. Najique Henry, of Swampscott, was second (6.67).
Bailin took third in the 300 (36.15) behind Blake (34.95) and Triton’s Diego Fernandez (35.52).
Jacobs-Townsley won the 2-mile in 10:50.49 for the Hurricanes. She joined Julia Hopley, Eliza Dole and Isabela Shepard to win the 4×800 in 9:56.56.
Shepard was second in the 600 (1:37.58) behind Wilmington’s Emma Garrity (1:36.14).
Danielle Beason, of Amherst, was eighth in the 300 (43.04).
Northampton placed eighth with 25 points in the girls meet.
Emma Harder was fourth in the 55 dash (7.45 seconds) and fifth in the 300 (41.95).
Mary Yount was second in the 2-mile (11:19.49).
The Blue Devils’ 4×800 relay was second in 10:09.15.
The top three individuals from each event advance to the All-State meet, Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.
