NORTHAMPTON — Democrats will hold two meetings on June 1 at JFK Middle School.

The first is the Northampton Democratic City Committee’s annual meeting, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11:40 a.m, and will feature addresses by both Sen. Jo Comerford, D-Northampton, and Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa, D-Northampton.

Attendees will also discuss working on the 2020 presidential campaign, “critical to our country’s future,” said Elizabeth Silver, chair of the Northampton Democratic City Committee, and the committee will vote on several draft amendments to its bylaws.

After the committee’s annual meeting, city Democrats will hold their caucus, scheduled for an 11:45 a.m. start, where delegates to the state party’s annual convention will be elected. Each ward will elect four delegates and four alternates.

Silver noted that all registered Democrats in the city of Northampton can participate in the caucus. She also said that any 16- or 17-year-olds who pre-registered to vote as Democrats by May 11 can vote in the caucus and run for delegate positions.

“This is great,” said Silver, noting that youth participation has been in place for several years, with no issues.

The convention will be held on Sept. 14 at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.
