A home-run derby will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Maines Field in the memory of Laura Brooke “Alaska” DiPillo, a Northampton teen who died in 2014 at age 15.
The softball-style derby is open to everyone. Fee is $10 in advance or $15 on the day of the event. Participants get 10 swings each.

Western Mass FC/Bayside will be holding soccer tryouts for birth years 2002-2007 on Monday at Holyoke High School, Tuesday at Four Rivers School in Greenfield, and Wednesday June 12 at Ellerbrook Field in Northampton.
Western Mass FC/Bayside is an affiliation between Northampton-based Western Mass FC and Rhode Island-based Bayside FC. Teams will play in the New England Premiership.
Girls tryouts will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and boys from 6:45-8 each night. The club also has teams for birth years 2008-2012.

The USTA of New England is partnering with the City of Holyoke to hold a free Tennis Kids Day on June 19 at Jones Point Park.
The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 and is for children ages 5-12.
The event will serve as the kickoff for the new Holyoke Tennis in the Parks program beginning in July at Jones Point. The six-week introductory program will focus on developing skills to serve, rally and score, followed by organized team matches.
The fee for the summer program is $60.

Pitcher Andrew Schultz, from Tennessee, was selected in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Shortstop Simon Whiteman, from Yale, was picked in the ninth round by the San Francisco Giants.
Pitcher C.J. Stubbs, from USC, was selected in the 10th round by the Houston Astros.
Saturday marks the Blue Sox 6:35 p.m. home opener at Mackenzie Stadium, in Holyoke. Fans are encouraged to arrive by 6 p.m. for pregame ceremonies, in which the team will commemorate their 2018 NECBL championship.
The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 2019 Blue Sox commemorative championship pennant.
