A Southampton man was sentenced Friday in federal court to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to several child pornography charges earlier this year.

Bruce Singer, 72, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Springfield to five counts of distribution of child pornography, one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, according to a statement released by the Department of Justice.

Singer is to also serve 15 years of supervised release following his time in prison, the statement said.

The Justice Department said Singer had made admissions in connection with his plea agreement, including that he had sent and received child pornography multiple times between April 30, 2013, and June 25, 2015.

Singer also exchanged child pornography with two other people, including James J. Smith, an Easthampton man sentenced to 11ยฝ years in prison in 2017 for distributing, transporting, receiving and possessing child pornography, the statement said.

When police searched Singerโ€™s home in 2015, they discovered hundreds of images of child pornography on various electronic devices, including images of known child victims, the statement read.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Northampton Police Department, the Easthampton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police, according to the Justice Department.

Trial attorney Leslie Williams Fisher of the Criminal Divisionโ€™s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of the District of Massachusetts prosecuted the case, the statement said.
