HADLEY – A section of River Drive is closed off due to an early morning crash that split a telephone pole and sent two people to the hospital.

According to police, River Drive, also known as Route 47, will stay closed from Stockwell Road to Huntington Road until around 3 p.m.

Police said they got the call at 5:32 a.m. and responded to a crash approximately an eighth of a mile south of Stockwell Road on River Drive.

A woman driving an SUV struck the male driver of a trash truck as he was picking up trash, police said. The woman struck a telephone pole after and split it, police said. Eversource is currently on the scene making repairs.

The man was transported to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, while the woman was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital with superficial injuries, police said.

The crash is currently under investigation.
