Defending Western Massachusetts girls soccer champions Granby and South Hadley each earned wins to open their seasons on Tuesday.
The Rams opened defense of their Division 4 crown with a 3-2 victory over Chicopee at home.
South Hadley, which won the Division 3 title, beat Hampshire Regional 4-1 at home.
Granby 3, Chicopee 2 โ Nora Young and Emily Vallee scored to lead the Rams. Young had two goals, including one off a free kick. Sienna Hill and Brianna Sosa each had an assist. Julia Gauvin had 13 saves.
South Hadley 4, Hampshire Regional 1 โ Lindsay Marjanski, Paige Marjanski and Maddie Doolittle each scored a goal to lead the Tigers in both teamsโ opener. Teagan Gawron and Sydney Mercier each had one assist.
Penelope Villada scored for Hampshire. The Raiders also scored an own goal.
Bridget Sears had five saves for the Tigers. Hampshireโs Katie Taylor had nine saves.
Frontier Regional 2, Ware 0 โ Natalie Denkiewicz tallied a goal and an assist in a home win.
She scored from Samantha Scanlon 12 minutes in.
Jessica Wrisley had the Red Hawksโ second goal in the second half off a Denkiewicz corner.
Siomara Green made eight saves for Frontier (1-0, 1-0 Pioneer North).
Gateway Regional 3, Hopkins Academy 0 โ Erin Harris scored three goals to propel the Gators in Hadley.
It was both teamsโ season opener.
Rebecca Hyjek assisted on two of the goals, while Larissa Kinglsey had the other. Donna Viel had two saves for the Gators.
Midfielders Hyjek, Ava Auclair and Hannah Coffey played a stellar game to help lead Gateway.
Northampton 5, Chicopee Comp 1 โ The Blue Devils scored four goals in the second half en route to a win in their opener.
Mary Greene scored three times to help pace the team. Caroline Tanner scored twice. Tanner, Abigail Denhart and Gabby Katz each had an assist.
Sydney Lewandowski had six saves.
Amherst Regional 3, Holyoke 2 โ Casey Flueckiger, Mildred Orelland and Sophie Higham each scored a goal to lead the Hurricanes on the road. Addison Lepak had two assists. Alyssa Smith had one assist. Lily Gleason had nine saves for Amherst (1-0-0).
Jaden Rodriguez and Abby Glasheen each scored a goal for the Purple Knights. Glasheen and Nathalie Vazquez each had one assist. Taryn Ryan had 10 saves for Holyoke (0-1-0).
Smith Vocational 4, Franklin Tech 0 โ Four players scored to lead the Vikings to a shutout victory in their opener.
Morgan Roberts, Ella Sherman, Madison Clark and Emily Bryant each scored for Smith Vocational. Clark and Bryant each had one assist.
Easthampton 2, Athol 1 โ Aubrey Fugiel and Abby McClaffin each scored a goal to push the Eagles in their opener.
Fugielโs goal came in the first half. McClaffinโs came two minutes into the second half. Abby Coleman had eight saves.
Greenfield 4, Smith Academy 1 โ Maisie Bower scored the Falconsโ lone goal in the first half, assisted by Story Goldman.
Maddie Bell had seven saves in the season-opening road loss.
West Springfield 1, Belchertown 0 โ A lone goal off a free kick was enough to get the Terriers past the Orioles in both teamsโ opener.
