Dixon, Team USA win tennis title

Former UMass women’s tennis coach Judy Dixon was a member of the USA women’s 70-and-over team that won the Althea Gibson Cup at the International Tennis Federation Tournament in Umag, Croatia, Friday.

Team USA defeated Sweden (3-0), Germany (2-1) and Australia (2-1) en route to the finals, where they beat Great Britain (3-0) for the title.

Dixon won all four of her singles matches. She was the deciding doubles point against both Germany and Australia.

Over 100 men’s and women’s from around the world competed in four age divisions: 65, 70, 80 and 85.

Dixon played with Brenda Carter, of South Carolina, Liane Bryson, of California, and Toni Novak, of Florida.

Dixon won the gold medal with Team USA in the 65-and-over division last year.

Meghan’s Light 5K set for Oct. 5

The fifth annual Meghan’s Light 5K Road Race and Family Fun Walk will be held Oct. 5 at Look Park in Northampton.

The event is held in memory Hadley native Meghan Hukowicz Zoll, and raises funds to support those impacted by cystic fibrosis (CF).

Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Kids races start at 10:30 a.m. followed by the 5K and fun walk at 11 a.m.

Children can participate at the Crafts Corner, children ages 2-10 can participate in the fun runs, and all children 12 and under can participate in the walk for free when accompanied by a paying. There will be raffle prizes available.
