Cannabis regulators are packing up and preparing to move into new digs later this week, finally getting a place they can truly call their own.

Since its September 2017 inception, the Cannabis Control Commission has worked out of temporary offices and held meetings in borrowed spaces. But starting this week, the CCC said it is shifting its headquarters to its new 13,100-square-foot office at Worcesterโ€™s Union Station. It also features a dedicated CCC public meeting space.

โ€œAs we continue to build a new agency while simultaneously regulating a new industry for the Commonwealth, a permanent home and dedicated public meeting space is a welcome development for us and the many stakeholders we work alongside,โ€ CCC Executive Director Shawn Collins said. โ€œLocating in the โ€˜Heart of the Commonwealthโ€™ will provide equal access to our agency and allow staff to quickly reach establishments dispersed throughout the state.โ€

The agency formalized a 10-year lease for the Union Station office at a first-year cost of $439,200 and also entered into a lease for a 4,532-square-foot satellite office at 50 Franklin St. in Bostonโ€™s Downtown Crossing late last year.

Commissioners and staff will start working from the new location Tuesday, but changes have already begun. This week, staff emails transitioned to a new domain โ€” @CCCMass.com โ€” though emails to the old @mass.gov addresses will be automatically forwarded until mid-January. CCC phone lines will be down Friday and Monday while the agency moves to Worcester but will be back up Tuesday with a new main phone number:ย (774) 415-0200.
