HATFIELD — A municipal energy aggregation program that could allow residents to pay lower costs for electricity will be introduced at information sessions on Thursday.

The Hatfield Community Choice Power Supply Program, with an estimated cumulative savings of $168,000 over the next 30 months, will be presented at public meetings at 1 and 4 p.m. at Memorial Town Hall.

The program was developed with assistance from Colonial Power Group Inc. and an agreement with Dynegy Energy Services of Dallas.

Town Administrator Marlene Michonski said in a statement that the program’s goal is to lock in a competitive price that provides savings and stability.

“I’m glad to see that the program is able to provide such great relief to our residents on their electric bills this winter,” Michonski said.

The price of energy at the outset will be 14% lower than the 11.571 cents per kilowatt hour for Eversource’s residential basic service.

Residential and business ratepayers will not notice any change in their electricity service, aside from Dynegy being the selected electricity supplier. In addition, those who participate in the WMECO Green Options program, through Green Energy Consumer Alliance, will continue to have that option available.

Only those who choose to opt out will not be part of the program.
