NORTHAMPTON — Northampton and Amherst activists will be among those leading a “Nobody is Above the Law” rally in support of impeaching President Donald Trump outside U.S. Rep. Richard Neal’s Springfield office Tuesday evening.
Northampton residents Jennifer Taub, a professor at Vermont Law School, Bill Scher, a contributing editor for Politico, and Debby Pastrich-Klemer, founder of Indivisible Northampton, and Amherst resident John Bonifaz, co-founder of Free Speech for People, will all speak at the event that begins at 6 p.m. at 300 State St., while Amherst resident Dr. Shirley Whitaker will perform music.
The rally, one of a number of actions across the country, comes on the eve of the anticipated vote on two articles of impeachment in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Organizers are calling for House members to vote in favor of impeachment, holding Trump accountable for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, and for the Senate to remove the president from office at a subsequent trial.
Indivisible Northampton, Rise Up Western Mass and Franklin County Continuing the Political Revolution are the main organizers of the event.
