High schools: Mathers, South Hadley take down Hopkins Academy

Chase Mathers finished with 22 points, as the South Hadley boys basketball team beat Hopkins Academy, 58-46, in Hadley on Monday.

Dylan Cottingham added 11 points for the Tigers (6-3).

Andrew Ciaglo had 14 points and Braeden Tudryn 11 for the Golden Hawks (5-4).

Franklin Tech 56, Gateway Regional 42 — Evan Cortis scored 20 points with 11 free throws, as the Gators fell at home.

The teams combined for 30 free throws.

Taylor Shedd added 10 points for Gateway (1-8).

Ware 62, Belchertown 56 — Jordan Lanoue had 18 points while Nathan Sadjak added nine points for the host Orioles (2-4).

Belchertown trailed by just one at the start of the fourth, but Ware pulled away.

Hunter Klingensmith scored eight.

West Springfield 53, Frontier Regional 35 — Sean Richter had 10 points but the Red Hawks (6-2) fell on the road.

Ludlow 68, Smith Vocational 49 — Andrew Pierce scored 19 points, as the Vikings fell on the road. Jaxson Venne added 13 points, while Carlos River scored eight for Smith Vocational (3-4).

Hockey

Greenfield 5, Mount Everett 1 — Sean O’Sullivan had three goals and one assist, while Kyle Barnes and Bryan Baumann (assist) each had one goal for the Green Wave (7-1-0, 5-0-0 Wright).

Aiden Roche had two helpers, while Mike McGoldrick, Jacob Bryant and MJ Paulin each had one. Riley Drew made 14 saves.
