This is a letter I’ve sent to Republican senators. I encourage any of like-mind to copy, or excerpt, or create one’s own and email to all GOP senators all addresses found at contactsenators.com/senator-email-addresses.

Dear Senator: It’s hard to write you without being snide, because what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said recently shows he intends to make a mockery of our republic, and the democracy that has guided us for all these years.

Nonetheless, I will try to set cynicism aside, as well as my fear and despair, to plead with you to put country over party. We need a genuine and clearly fair trial in the Senate for the actions President Trump has admitted to. This is not about winning. This is not partisan politics. This is the soul of our country that’s at stake — and of democracy around the world.

I am really angry, writing this, because I can no longer trust you to act honorably, as if it matters to you. But I hope the conscience of the aide who reads this prompts that person at least in some small way to act upon it. It is time for every senator, even you, especially you, to consider their place in history, as supporting either the president, or the Constitution and the nation.

Senator, sadly, we are at a point, where it must be one, or the other, and I, and the American people, now, and in the future, will hold you and your staff personally accountable.

Matt Levin
