HATFIELD —Two-term incumbent Select Board member Brian F. Moriarty will seek another three years on the board at the May 19 town election.
Moriarty said Monday that he would like to serve another term on Hatfield’s top policy board.
“It’s a really good, well-functioning Board of Selectmen right now,” Moriarty said, adding that while he and board members Dianza Szynal and Edmund Jaworski don’t agree on all issues, they try to be respectful toward each other while working for the town.
Moriarty said he will continue to focus on issues such as the preservation of open space, noting that during his tenure he has supported Kestrel Land Trust’s efforts to protect 94 acres at Horse Mountain and about 22 acres off Straits Road.
The town also secured a $2 million MassWorks grant that will pay to extend water and sewer lines along Route 5, increasing commercial capacity and supporting the proposed expansion of Stiebel Eltron, a developer and manufacturer of energy-efficient heating products.
In addition to new town hires, including both police and fire chiefs, a building inspector and town treasurer, Moriarty said he supported the conversion of the Center School into apartments, the ongoing renovation of Town Hall and making sure streets are in good condition.
Nomination papers for all the seats up for election this spring are available at the town clerk’s office at Memorial Town Hall Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In addition to the Select Board seat, on the ballot will be a Board of Assessors position held by Ronald J. Punska, a Board of Health seat held by Kerry Flaherty, a Cemetery Commission position held by Jonathan W. Bardwell, the Elector under the Oliver Smith Will position held by William J. Betsold, a Housing Authority seat held by Michael J. McGrath, a library trustee position held by Marsha L. Humphrey, the moderator position held by Joseph A. Lavallee, Sr., a Planning Board seat held by Stephanie Elizabeth Slysz, and the Town Clerk position held by Lydia Szych. In addition, there is a position on the Redevelopment Authority whose incumbent is not seeking reelection, and two seats open on the School Committee.
The last day to submit nomination papers is March 31.
