The Hopkins Academy boys basketball team clinched the Hampshire League South championship with a 62-49 win over Pioneer Regional at home Thursday.

Addison Phifer scored 13 points to lead the Golden Hawks (13-6, 6-2).

Andrew Ciaglo and Braeden Tudryn each contributed 10 points for Hopkins. Nathan Waldon (nine points) made three 3-pointers, and Tudryn added two.

Smith Vocational 53, St. Mary’s 46 — The Vikings moved within one game of qualifying for the playoffs behind 13 points and 12 rebounds from Elpedio Adorno.

Carlos Rivera added nine points and 16 rebounds for the Vikings (9-8, 8-1 Tri-County South), and Andrew Pierce contributed seven points and 15 boards.

Smith Vocational visits Hampden CHarter on Friday at 7 p.m.

Mahar 58, Belchertown 34 — Jordan Lanoue scored 12 points, as the Orioles fell at home.

Belchertown (8-11, 3-4 Hampshire South) can’t finish the regular season above .500, but the Orioles aren’t eliminated from playoff contention. There are three teams with four losses in the Hampshire South tied for third place. Turners Falls is at second at 4-3 behind Hopkins. Belchertown could still qualify by finishing second place in the league.

Owen Raines added nine points.

Hampshire Regional 70, Palmer 61 — Justin Forest scored 33 points with five 3s, and the Raiders stayed in the playoff hunt. They can still qualify with a second-place finish in the Bi-County West.

Spencer Czarniecki scored seven of his 11 points in the first quarter to boos Hampshire (8-11, 4-4) to a good start.

Dominik Lewinski hit two 3s and added 13 points.

Putnam 66, Northampton 58 (OT) — Jacob Cancel hit a buzzer-beating 3 at the end of the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. He led the Blue Devils with 11 points, along with Seth Finnessey who also contributed 11 points.

Gavin Bullock added nine points of his own for Northampton. (5-13, 2-6 Valley League).

Girls basketball

Gateway Regional 32, Westfield Tech 22 — Hannah Duggan hit three 3s and scored 11 points, as the Gators moved within a victory of qualifying for the Division 4 tournament. Donna Viel had eight points, and Grace Van Buren added six points for Gateway (9-9, 6-2 Tri-County South).

Hockey

Wahconah 4, South Hadley 1 — Thenis Tsilibocos put the Tigers ahead 6 minutes, 29 seconds into the game, but the Warriors responded with four straight goals. Cole Hambley and Joe Cigal assisted Tsilibocos.

There were 10 penalties: six on Wahconah and four against South Hadley (9-7-1, 4-4 Fay)

Indoor track

State Division 2 championships — The Holyoke girls 4×200-meter relay team of Morgan Sheehan, Tiana Johnson, Lauren Canata and Haley Curtis placed 22nd in 1 minute, 55.97 seconds.
