The UMass men’s basketball team ended a 22-game Atlantic 10 road losing streak Saturday, beating Fordham 57-49 at Rose Hill Gym.
It was the Minutemen’s first win at Fordham since 2015.
Tre Mitchell led UMass (12-15, 6-8 A-10) with 15 points and 19 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season.
Samba Diallo had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Minutemen, while Carl Pierre added 13 points and hit three 3s.
UMass only shot 32.8 percent from the field but out rebounded Fordham 49-35. The Minutemen grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.
Williams 5, Amherst 2 — Patrick Daly and Matteo Mangiardi found the net in the second period, but the Mammoths fell in their regular season finale Saturday.
Joey Verkerke and Greg McGunigle each had an assist for Amherst (9-11-4, 7-8-3 NESCAC), while Giancarlo Ventre saved 30 shots.
WPI 68, Mount Holyoke 36 — Annika Brooks scored 13 points, but the Lyons (1-24, 0-10 NEWMAC) closed the season with a loss Saturday.
UMass 6, Delaware State 3; Delaware State 1, UMass 0; Delaware State 6, UMass 3 — Anthony Videtto tallied five hits and four RBIs, as the Minutemen (1-2) split a doubleheader Saturday then fell Sunday.
Sean Harney picked up the win with three strikeouts in four innings.
Mount Holyoke 18, Gordon 5 — Northampton grad Abby Baldwin tallied three goals and two assists, as the Lyons opened the season with a home win Saturday.
Caroline Flynn led the Lyons (1-0) with five goals. Julianna Rankin added a hat trick and an assist, while Allie Brown scored three goals with two assists. Meryl Phair found the net twice.
UMass 2, Pittsburgh 1; East Carolina 7, UMass 3 — Amy Smith smacked a game-winning two-run double in the sixth inning against the Panthers on Saturday. Kiara Oliver struck out seven and allowed just three hits in the win.
Abby Lamson, Kendra Allen and Madison Gimple each drove in a run during Sunday’s loss for the Minutewomen (3-3).
Atlantic 10 Championships —Maja Boric captured the one-meter diving title with 281.8 points and the three-meter championship with 335.1 points. She was named the Atlantic 10 Championships Most Outstanding Diver on Saturday.
NEWMAC Championships — Mount Holyoke’s Samantha Nemifant dove to third on the three-meter (4:57.55) and fifth on the one-meter (432.35) boards.
Kathryn Murphy placed fourth on the one-meter for the Lyons (449.7).
Smith’s Kristin Cirulli took fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes, 33.09 seconds.
Atlantic 10 Championships — Tyler Piddie won the 1,650-yard freestyle title with the second-fastest time in school history: 15:25.89.
NESCAC Championships — Northampton graduate Nick Whitcomb won the 100 backstroke for Williams in 48.63 seconds and the 50 backstroke in 22.6 seconds.
Amherst’s Craig Smith placed first in the 200 backstroke in 1:47.63. Whitcomb took third for Williams (1:49.15).
Bennett Fagain scored 513.45 points to win on the three-meter diving board and 497.5 to win on the one-meter board.
