The 23rd annual Hampshire Franklin IAABO All-Star games will be held Friday at Smith Academy in Hatfield.

The games are presented by the officials of IAABO Board 28, which covers Hampshire County and Franklin County.

The games will feature only seniors. The girls game will start at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7:30.

Board 28 will be honoring the girls team from Franklin County Technical and the boys team from Hopkins Academy with the Jack Leaman Sportsmanship Award, given to the school whose players, coaches and athletic department staff display outstanding sportsmanship during the year.

Longtime former Amherst Regional boys coach Jim Matuszko will be honored with the Tom Cove Award for his long-lasting contributions to the game of basketball in Hampshire and Franklin Counties.

Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for seniors and students. All active and reserve military will be admitted free with a valid ID.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the William F. Casey Scholarships.

Local players on the East girls team: Erin Klaes, Amherst Regional; Sonia Dugger, Belchertown; Kaeleigh Croteau and Nora Young, Granby; Thea Hanscom and Gabby Palmisano, Hopkins Academy; Erin Gilrein and Karlie Guimond, Smith Academy.

Local players on the West girls team: Kyla Roy, Easthampton; Marie Diemand, Frontier Regional; Grace Van Buren and Donna Viel, Gateway Regional; Jackie Babyak and Katie Taylor, Hampshire Regional; Amanda Mieczkowski, Emily Sledzieski and Caroline Tanner, Northampton; and Bridget Sears, South Hadley.

Allison Slysz, of Smith Academy, and Joe Gamache, of Greenfield, will coach the East girls. Kristen Tirado, of Smith Vocational, and Brian Miller, of Easthampton, will coach the West.

Local players on the East boys team: Tabor Bowman, Amherst Regional; Owen Raines, Belchertown; Luis Gaj, Granby; Ryan Antes, Hopkins Academy; David Cavanaugh, Smith Academy; and Colin Ferrara, Smith Academy.

Local players on the West boys team: Nate Morse and Sean Sabourin, Easthampton; Collin Boudreau and Brett Robinson, Frontier Regional; Spencer Czarniecki and Dominik Lewinski, Hampshire Regional; Gavin Bullock and Jake Brittain, Northampton; Andrew Pierce, Carlos Rivera, and Jaxson Venne, Smith Vocational; Hunter Carey and Brady Marion, South Hadley.

Matt Zerneri, of Smith Academy, and Dan Bevis, of Athol, will coach the East boys. Darren Schmidt, of Mohawk Trail, and Lee Mollison, of Hampshire Regional, will coach the West.

On Thursday, several local players will participate in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Western Massachusetts Senior High School All-Star Games in Springfield.

Three games will be held on the Jerry Colangelo Court of Dreams. The first game at 5:30 p.m. will be between boys in Division 3 and 4. Lewinski will play for Team 1, while Carey will play for Team 2.

The 7 p.m. game will feature girls from Division 1, 2, 3 and 4. Holyokeโ€™s Destiny Calderon is on Team 1. Klaes, Young, Mieczkowski and Jill McGrath, of Northampton, are on Team 2.

The 8:30 p.m. game will be between boys from Division 1 and 2. Jovaughn Smith-Antuna, of Holyoke, is on Team 1. Brittain is on Team 2.

The Hall of Fame will also recognize one boy and one girls as their Western Massachusetts Players of the Year.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The Pope Francis hockey team lost to Arlington High School in the winners bracket final of the Super 8 Tournament on Saturday. The Cardinalsโ€™ opponent was incorrectly referred to as Arlington Catholic.
