■The freeholders and other inhabitants of the town of Northampton, legally qualified to vote in town affairs, are hereby notified and warned to assemble and meet at the court house on Monday, to choose town officers for the year ensuring.

■The members of the Society for Detecting Thieves and Robbers in Northampton, and likewise those who wish to become members, are notified that an adjourned meeting will be holden at the public house of H. Smith, tomorrow evening. A punctual attendance is requested.

100 Years Ago

■An employee of the Boston & Maine railroad claims to have seen the first bluebird of the season early this morning. He was crossing the Bates Street bridge when he heard the bird’s song and he is positive that he saw this forerunner of spring in a tree near the bridge.

■In the district court today the cases of the three young men of Easthampton who broke into the store of Peter Sares of that town last week and stole various articles and money were fined $50 each and one of them was given a year in which to pay the fine and the cases of the other two were continued for a year.

■On Wednesday evening 29 fencers from Western Massachusetts gathered at the Hampshire Regional YMCA in Northampton for an informal meet. Teams represented included the Springfield Turnverin, Lenox School and the host team from the YMCA.

■David P. Sullivan, auditor of the City of Northampton for 13 years, today announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Hampshire County Commission, a three-year term now held by Republican Hiram H. Brownell.
