HATFIELD — Joining several other communities in the area, the Select Board in Hatfield this week declared a state of emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its declaration, the board states that a “present, reasonable and imminent danger to public health, safety, or general welfare of the people” exists in Hatfield.

Approved Monday, the state of emergency, which allows the state Department of Public Health to coordinate emergency management and emergency functions in town if necessary, will remain in effect until notice that it is no longer needed.

Like other area cities and towns, all municipal buildings in Hatfield are closed to the public until further notice.

Select Board Chairman Brian Moriarty said the Select Board, along with the health board and emergency services departments, are working together and will disseminate updated information on the town website as it becomes available.
