SOUTHAMPTON — Two town residents have tested positive for COVID-19, local officials announced Friday.

The two people are the first documented cases of the novel coronavirus in Southampton, according to a Facebook post by the Southampton Fire Department. The individuals are in isolation and close contacts are being quarantined, the post said.

Southampton Emergency Management Director Charlie Kaniecki and Town Administrator Ed Gibson were informed by public health officials about the town’s first cases, according to the post.

The post implores town residents to continue social distancing and hand washing.

“Town Officials are working closely, to ensure we are doing everything we can to make Southampton a safe community,” the post states. “It will take each community member, working together, to bring this pandemic under control.”
