HATFIELD — Gill Elementary School’s principal for the past five years will become Hatfield Elementary School’s next principal, beginning July 1.
Conor Driscoll was named to the position Friday by outgoing Superintendent John Robert and will replace Tim Luce, who has been the interim principal for this school year.
Driscoll said in an email that he’s looking forward to building on the existing educational foundation and getting to know the teachers, students and families.
“Hatfield public schools have an excellent reputation for academics and as a close community,” Driscoll said.
Before becoming principal, Driscoll taught sixth grade humanities in the Gill-Montague School District and was a sixth grade English language arts teacher in the Springfield public schools.
“Though the decision to leave Gill Elementary has been a difficult one, and I have nothing but positive things to say about it, I am very excited for this new chapter,” Driscoll said.
Robert, who retires at the end of June, said the decision to appoint Driscoll was made in consultation with incoming superintendent Martin McEvoy, who also begins July 1.
Driscoll and Lindsay Rodriguez, principal at Hawlemont Elementary School in Charlemont since 2018, were the finalists for the position. They had been selected from eight semifinalists and 31 applicants.
Robert said the decision to select Driscoll was due to having more experience as a principal and feedback from teachers who offered input.
