A return to sports is at least six weeks away based on the “Four-Phase Approach” plan released by Gov. Charlie Baker’s Reopening Advisory Board Monday morning.
Each phase will last a minimum of three weeks as the state slowly allows businesses, services and activities to resume. The goal is to avoid a resurgence of COVID-19.
During Phase 1, on May 25 most fishing, hunting and boating activities can return. Some athletic fields and courts are also allowed to open.
During Phase 2, all athletic fields and courts can open. Youth sports can start in “limited fashion.”
During Phase 3, youth sports with games and tournament can begin. Games and tournaments must limit crowd size. Fitness centers and gyms can also open with restrictions and some capacity limitations.
There are specific guidelines for each phase. Throughout the entire reopening process, the state encourages everyone to cover their face, wash their hands, maintain social distance, watch for symptoms and stay home if they feel sick.
During Phase 1, gatherings are limited to less than 10 people, all travelers to Massachusetts are urged to self-quarantine for 14 days.
During Phase 2 and 3, crowd sizes will be determined based on public health data trends.
Phase 4 will be the full resumption of outdoor recreation and activities.
