I recently contacted Jo Comerford, our state senator, for information about voting by mail. I wanted to know what she thought about it.
I learned that Jo had not only thought about that issue, she was sponsoring bills that ensured early voting by all eligible voters. She is not only a thinker, but a true advocate and source of socially significant legislation. I learned that she provided leadership to pass a bill to allow voting by mail for elections occurring before June 30. The bill is now law. She also is co-sponsor of the Vote by Mail Act (S2654) that will bring universal voting by mail for Massachusetts, for both the coming primary and general elections this year.
It would make Election Day a holiday. That’s not enough for Jo. She also supports legislation for same-day registration on Election Day, and for ranked-choice voting.
We are indeed fortunate to have a model of public service who works for the social good.
Thanks, Jo.
